Tesla Reveal Powershare Grid Support V2G Program in Texas

A new page has recently appeared on the Tesla web site, entitled “What is Powershare Grid Support“. In answer to that question Tesla state that:

With Powershare, your Cybertruck can support the electric grid when needed and earn you money. In participating regions listed below, Powershare Grid Support allows your vehicle to send energy back to the grid during high-demand energy events. For each event where you send energy to the grid, you’ll receive credit on your energy bill while helping your community’s energy resilience.

The “participating regions” currently consist of:

Texas and California (coming soon)

If you are currently a resident of the Lone Star State, the Powershare Grid Support small print currently reads as follows:

To be eligible for Powershare Grid Support in Texas, you must:

  • Live in an area serviced by Centerpoint Energy or Oncor
  • Have a Powershare-capable vehicle
  • Have Powershare equipment installed at your home
  • Enroll in the Tesla Electric Drive plan
  • Opt in to Powershare Grid Support in the Tesla app

If you are a resident of the Golden State two of the bullet points are slightly different:

To be eligible for Powershare Grid Support in California, you must:

  • Live in an area serviced by PG&E, SCE or SDG&E
  • Enroll in your utility’s vehicle-to-grid program in the Tesla app

Further Tesla small print points out that:

Currently, Powershare Grid Support is open by invitation only through our early adopter program. Powershare Grid Support will be available to all customers who meet the eligibility criteria after the early adopter program concludes.

Compensation for Powershare Grid Support will vary depending on the program or electricity plan that you’re enrolled in. Refer to your program or plan specific details to learn more.

If you are a part of the early adopter program, using Powershare Grid Support through Tesla Electric will not impact your Cybertruck warranty. Additional warranty conditions for use of Powershare Grid Support will be outlined after the early adopter program concludes.

At this juncture one cannot help but wonder what other “Powershare-capable vehicles” might be on Tesla’s roadmap?

And whether such vehicles will ever become available here in the once United Kingdom?
